Taking Care of Future You

These last few years of entrepreneurship have been some of the most challenging times in my life and also the most fulfilling. But I wouldn't have even had the opportunity to pursue this path had it not been for the decisions I made in my 20's. I think about that often, and if I'm being honest, that's how I've been able to stay afloat when the finances aren't financing.

My 30's have been about shedding the pieces of me I no longer want as part of my identity, and standing on business for how I want to show up in the world. Healthy in mind and body, with love in my heart. But I truly don't think I'd have the space to do that had I not taken care of the future version of myself back then.

As I approach 40 next year, I'm enjoying this opportunity to practice mindfulness, stay present, and show constant gratitude for today. I also can't wait to experience the joy future me will have because of the decisions I make today. Going to the gym (when I don't feel like it), being an entrepreneur (that's a faith journey within itself), keeping a consistent journaling practice, choosing better foods, trying new things, setting boundaries, and moving my body for fun, these are things I do today because the me of next year, and 40 years from now, wants to walk through this world with love. Mental and physical health play a huge role in that.

And really, it's the small things. I want to be able to tie my own shoe as I get older. Walk unassisted. Sleep well. Squat down and pick things up off the floor. Show kindness in all situations. Show up for my friends and family as present as possible.

So I say all that to say: take care of future you. Every decision we make today is part of building the life we'll live tomorrow.

Take care of future you. 💛
